Pen Sketches...realistic again!

Hello again blog dwellers! Here are a few more quick pen sketches, just something to keep updating on, so that my blog feels some love. I attempted to spend a bit more time just playing around with the medium I was using, and working with line and cross hatch shading. I also looked at just simply using line, which is something I've always done when doing realistic drawings. The aim is to get away from that though, and I plan on looking more at the contours within the faces. When I have the time I will get out my pencils and work on smudging and playing around a bit more with a proper composed image. For now the pen sketches will do!
Enjoy!

Pen Sketches...realistic!

So when I thought I was just going to do one drawing today turns out Mr Procrastination had other plans...ALAS! Here's some really fast pen sketches with realistic faces, yes mine. I've just gone through and quickly drawn out features, trying to focus on the shapes in the face rather than the outlines and the proportions, having had that drilled in my head continuously in my Life Drawing intensive. It seemed to have some effect! Each image was only 1-2 minutes spent on them... though probably less now that I think about it...I should start timing myself! I'm still wanting to try and give up on lines completely, before bringing them back in again. Could be an interesting holiday project. The aim is to marry my realistic drawing and my cartoon linework together...could be fun!
Enjoy!

Pen Sketches

I still haven't given myself the chance to sit down properly to do an image. I want to work more on creating backgrounds and the figure, so hopefully once the stress of finishing off my elective goes, I hope to get back into my illustration and animations. I still have a long way to go until I'm happy with myself and my style, though I am loving it a lot there's always room for improvement! I think it's healthy to want to continuously progress, and I look forward to where I will go!
This image is yet again another pen sketch that I have done quickly, maybe 5 minutes, just to free my head. I notice that I draw my figures in similar positions, so now I know that I should work on positioning my character as well as working on the proportions a bit more. I do love how this worked out though, and the simple line work can easily have the Edgar lines added, as well as some good colours. I will hopefully get to doing that..!

Pen Sketches

Hello bloggers! I haven't uploaded in a long time, so I shall try and update more frequently from now on. Having completed the majority of my course this month (only commercial photography to go!) I have found myself to be particularly drained. Alas, here's to holiday projects and lots of drawing and animating!
These images themselves were simple pen sketches done, without reference, and close to a minute on each.

If cats had coffee...

This was something done really roughly, and for fun mainly! It's been a while since I've felt the need to do an animation, so a great moment today! Regardless of how loose it is, it's helped remind me of how to go about things when it comes to animation. I hope that this will, in turn, get me motivated to do a fully rendered and coloured animation (I can definitely see how it can be time consuming though). I just love this animation though! Priceless caffeine moment!

Sketching

Hello again! Another blog update for today! This was just a really fast pen sketch that I decided to do, as drawing is a great way of clearing the mind. Obviously there's things wrong with the proportions, but as I said, purely a sketch. Probably a 2-5 minute thing, if that helps anyone thinking about the incorrect things. I hope to update the blog more as the course comes to a close...but we'll just have to see how that goes!

Sea Swept

Playing around with my line work still! I hope to at some point incorporate my style into an animation properly, as well as attempt mixing the line work with realistic pictures. All up hill from here!

Elephant Love

Well it's been a while since I have updated! It's getting to the end of the year, and yep that does mean the end of the Uni course...bring on 2013! I decided to draw something different for a change, so what better than an elephant (wearing a bow tie of course)! I use this picture just to express how easy we forget the effects of our words, and our actions. Love not war (or to a lesser degree hate)! If the elephant says so, then it must be true. I really love the line work (as usual) and it can only get better
 and more refined from here.

Edgar cover..ish

Hello fellow blog dwellers. Here's an idea for the cover of "Edgar the Seagull". Obviously still some tweaking needed, but I think its one of the more successful ones that I've done, and I really like it! I am biased though...so any thoughts or comments would be REALLY appreciated!

That be handy!

So this is what will happen if I think of something and decide to follow through with it. I was literally sitting doing work, yes work, and thought "Wouldn't it be strange if cats had hands?". I know that it is another cat picture, at this point in time, they are the easiest, and most fun, things to draw, and until I get more time, there will probably be more of them. At the same time, now that I have stated that, you'll probably find that I stop updating with cats....maybe. I'm also playing around with different things on Photoshop, and its really interesting to see the direction I can take the images!

Hidden Kitten

Well it seems that playing around in Photoshop always leads to some interesting results. I really like how this little fiddle around turned out! I used a denim scan from a previous project, played around with inverse, and got this really funky result. A great way to get distracted, but oh well!

Fat Cat

Hello! I haven't updated anything in a while, it's getting pretty stressful with Uni! Alas, here is a rendered cat scribble, as there can never be enough cat scribbles. Currently I have a cat at home that is about to have kittens, so it's very much a joke image. You might also note the workings of my logo in the corner! Onwards to more work, and hopefully more blog posts, although it is very time dependent.

Little lines

Hello! Here's some fun with the line weight again, and applying the established line work with humans, not just cats and seagulls. I really love how this shaped out, even if it was just a rough. I plan to go through a lot of the graphic novel pages I've previously done, and rework the lines to match, or be more sophisticated.
Enjoy!

Edgar Linework

Hello world of the blog! I'm in a writing mood! Here we have the linework, not final, but getting close to, of one of the scenes in the Edgar story. It's at this point where Harry gets kicked onto the top of a tram and all Edgar can do is watch helplessly (oh no!). I hope I've gotten you all curious about what the book is now! It's still a working process of course, but I'm really loving the relationship that I'm getting between the character and the line work. I keep going on about the line work! I'm not there yet, but I am getting there, so I'm really just enjoying my journey through these final projects. Enough rambling, back to working!

Om nom nom

So I really felt the urge to draw a cat. I also know this is procrastination but I'm really enjoying these cat pictures. I decided to keep in the text that I wrote up with it this time, as I do write out the sayings each time, and I think it doesn't look half bad. I shall get onto proper Uni work now!

Party Wolf!

So what madness is this? This here is a party wolf! It's really based from
Zephaniah 3:3 "Her officials are roaring lions, her rulers are evening wolves,
who leave nothing for the morning."
So yes technically this is an "evening wolf" in his evening attire, ready to party to the early morning.  There were meant to be two, but as a novice in drawing wolves...yes it really is a struggle...I left it at one.
I do love the idea though! I plan on working on it more when I have the time and resources/ practice.
Enjoy!

The font used here is 'Lucida Sans'. I really don't like how I've tackled the font....I hope to get better at all that typography stuff at some point!

Scenery Ahoy!

Hello! So I know I haven't drawn anything for my graphic novel in ages....well since February....and so I thought I would just see how my different line work would go with one of the characters. What I have also done is mixed in the beach scene, kind of, from my independent project to see how well that line work will fit when a person is added. I really like what I achieved from this and I definitely hope to continue on this path. I also hope to restart my graphic novel once writers block clears up, oh it is a silly thing.

Super Cat!

So here's a picture where I've fiddled around with the line work again. I really like this style, and I haven't located my previous cat images, so I thought I would just draw a new one. I've adopted the speech bubble specifically from my Edgar project, and I feel that it definitely wont be the last time that I will do so. I have definitely fallen in love with it.

Enjoy!

Dancing Skeletons

So I noticed that for the huge amount of photography I do, I haven't really been putting anything up on the blog. I haven't been as involved recently with photo shoots, or all of that fun and fancy stuff, but I do hope to get back into the swing of things when I get the time, after all this Uni fun. I do have an intensive course coming up in commercial photography, which should be brilliant! I hope to get a few more photos worked up before then, but for now here's this one. It's an old photo from year 12, when I was looking into the human mindset around beauty and societies view on it. I had half of my face made to look like a ballerina, and the other half to look like a skeleton. Working with a tripod, and my dads Nikon, I went around and took different photos. This one was one of the few that I didn't actually work up, until today. It was a good project, and I hope to tackle the themes again at some point in the near future, after a possible zombie
 photo session.

The Light: running storyboard, start and finish

Wowza! So how long has it been since I've actually shown anything animated? Oh that's right! It was my first ever post! Sadly I don't have anything as developed as that...yet, but this here is something new I am attempting. I came to a standstill with my project, in which I am focusing on the backgrounds, so I decided to make an attempt of a storyboard, really rough drawings of course. So with the lovely help of AfterEffects, I have something.....sort of workable, just to show where I am going with the project. This is a long term animation that I have had going in plans for a while now, and I'm really excited to have gotten this far with it. It's really nice to actually get thoughts into action for once, so yay that I can get past the block.
I'm still learning how to work the program, so it's a matter of just getting better from this point. I will get the rest of it done in due time.

Enjoy!

DISCLAIMER: I do not claim to own the song, this is purely the genius of Sara Bareillis The Light. It is an amazing song, and one that I have definitely fallen in love with, this here is to show my animation and my timing, although not perfect yet, and not to gain acknowledgement of her work.

Dinosaur Circus

This is definitely different to what I have usually done! I have had so much fun with this picture though. Over the last few weeks my drawing have gotten a little crazy, so there are actually a few images that follow this pattern, and I may or may not put them up, they get a little creepy as well. This is what happens when you collaborate with crazy people, awesome crazy people. I really liked doing this picture! My initial attempt with this, was to draw an image that mimicked the realistic style of my friend at Uni, who is an insane drawer of realistic dragons. I did find myself thinking that the image was too serious, so I then added in the top hat and the moustache, yep the dinosaur/ dragon has a moustache. SO I showed her the image, and one thing led to another, and the imaginative birthing of a dinosaur/ dragon circus ring leader was born. I wasn't sure about putting it up, but it was a lot of fun, and there will probably be a few more images to follow.

Creature1

It's really interesting to see how the Edgar project has affected my linework! I have fallen in love with using this simplistic linework with some of my smaller images, and I have a few of them that I have drawn around the place now! This is just an example of how I've adapted the line weight effect, seen with the background characters that I posted previously, and there are more that I will put up on the blog. I have also come up with a cat character in this linework, that I hope to put up when I get to scanning it onto the computer.

Loverlylines1

Playing around with lines! A lot of fun! This is the line work that I'm hoping to get better at, and aim towards, with a lot of my work in the future. I also tried using the established linework from my "Edgar the Seagull" project in a different format/ context, and it worked out really lovely! I'm really beginning to like this style. I still have my bold colouring, I think it is something that I will ultimately stick with.
